Mifepristone is the most commonly used abortion pill and the one we normally send along with the second set of pills, misoprostol. Anti-abortionists are trying to make mifepristone unavailable.
Another medication called ulipristal acetate (or ella) works about the same as mifepristone. Just life mifepristone, ulipristal acetate works by blocking progesterone, a hormone needed to maintain a pregnancy. Current research shows using ulipristal acetate with misoprostol to be a similar medication abortion experience to someone using mifepristone and misoprostol. Having different medications available for abortions is important so people can get the care they need!
You can help protect abortion by helping us show that this medication just as effective as mifepristone. We are partnering with researchers to add to the current research on ulipristal acetate with misoprostol so that we can confirm it is as safe and effective as current research shows. This research will help patients to have different abortion pill options available in the future no matter what the courts decide.
We are offering ulipristal acetate and misoprostol as a medication option for patients who want it. If you’re interested, you will also be invited to share your experience, by answering questions for the research study. The research team provides a $50 gift card for your participation in the survey which takes approximately 5 minutes to complete and will be sent to you 5 weeks after your abortion.
